Youth Peace Initiative (YPI)

The Youth Peace Initiative – or ‘YPI’ – is about motivating and supporting high school-aged young people from all backgrounds to share creative ideas and take action for peace and social justice.

The Youth Peace Initiative aims to:

  • Engage young people in thinking and talking about issues of social justice, peace, and the practice of non-violence;
  • Enable young people to feel that their actions can make a difference;
  • Encourage young people to develop projects that make positive changes in their schools and communities, as well as nationally and globally;
  • Recognise and showcase significant projects that promote the benefits of peace with justice and non-violence.
 The YPI website provides an online, interactive space for high school-aged youth to showcase their projects and discuss viable solutions to local, national, and global problems, as well as possibilities for collaboration. Offline youth forums are also held regularly on such topics as “Using New Media Technologies for Peace Activism” and “Bridging the Urban-Rural Divide Among Young People.” Like the website, these events facilitate dialogue among youth peace builders from schools and youth organisations all over NSW.
